Magellan is trying to turn the portable GPS industry on its ear with the launch of two new units being announced this week in Las Vegas. The first is a huge 7 inch screen device known as the Roadmate 9055; the other is a smaller and even more portable device that can be used when out traveling the countryside with the Explorist 310.
Both GPS devices offer some great little add-ons and features. The Roadmate 9055 has an MSRP of $299 and comes with a touch screen WVGA and Bluetooth connections. Users also get a lifetime supply of map updates whenever one is available. In addition the maps are packed with POIs and places from the AAA Tour book which even include star ratings.
The Explorist runs for a $100 cheaper and features a 2.2 inch display and features that are geared far more to the outdoorsy explorer. In addition to a ton of different features geared towards keeping someone from getting lost, the device can reportedly run for 18 hours on just two AA batteries.
