Vizio Tablet preview 2011

Vizio Tablet preview 2011
We just got our first thorough experience with the latest Vizio Tablet, the company’s proposal into the market of Android slates, and we have to mention that it is very likable. It was announced recently, Monday afternoon along with Vizio’s new smartphone. Based on the first looks we can say that the company is in the right track.

The hardware part itself is very fresh but it tries to hold on to some personality. The unit’s thickness is almost same as iPad and owes same shiny black front face and bezel, however the back end is bestowed a stylish gray matte finish. The display is an 8inch LCD supporting 1024X768 pixel resolution, looks tighter compared to iPad, owing largely in part to that tinier screen. The screen is quite receptive to touch, however again the software is pretty basic. As this is not an IPS screen, the viewing angles were bit restricted but they appeared perfectly suitable. Under the hood, there’s CPU able to run at 1GHz plus, although Vizio would not admit to the craft & model. Similarly on the memory, but you get 4GB of storage capacity where 2GB for OS and other 2GB for user and you also get microSD card slot. HDMI port and Micro USB run through the bottom of the tablet, right spine houses volume rocker, speaker for landscape, 2 more speakers at the top for portrait. The speakers are of particular note since Vizio has joined with SRS on surround sound emulation which operates in both the orientations. It is just amazing and the device has IR blaster incorporated at the top for portrait which also can work as universal remote.

The tablet runs on Android but Vizio dint reveal the version. It actually looks as if the variation on 2.2 version or 2.3 but dint seem like Honeycomb. There’s yet few rough animation and too buggy aspects to the user interface, however many of the thoughts are superbly solid, such as notification window that categorizes by age and application, and the ability to open up your folders/set of apps and swiftly page through them. This tablet is intended as a constituent of company’s VIA Plus ecosystem, i.e. it can be hooked into Vizio’s HDTVs and other company’s products.

Vizio is not disclosing about the tagging, though reports were vigorous about being too competitive with the players in the bandwagon. Also the exact release date is not available, but they are planning a summer launch.
