Motorola Droid X2 Now Available from Verizon Wireless

Verizon Wireless today started selling the Motorola Droid X2 Android smartphone through its online store.

If you can't wait until May 26, when it becomes available in retail stores, Verizon Wireless today started selling the Motorola Droid X2 through its online store. The Android smartphone costs $200 with a new two-year contract. It requires a Wireless Nationwide Talk plan and a smartphone data package.

Motorola Droid X2 While the Droid X2 (specs) currently runs Android 2.2, Verizon says that it'll be updated to Android 2.3. This phone is the carrier's first dual-core 1GHz smartphone, and basically challenges the recently released Motorola ATRIX 4G for AT&T and LG G2x for T-Mobile.

Here's what you can expect from the Droid X2's key capabilities:

Double the Power. Double the Does

Double your hustle with the dual-core 1GHz processor. Feast your content-hungry eyes on 26% sharper definition than Droid X. Use 1080p Mirror Mode via HDMI for video playback and surf, view pictures, play games and more on your HDTV or monitor.

Own the Web

The dual-core 1GHz processor lets you fly through the Web at warp speeds while Adobe Flash 10 lets you devour rich content and video. Want a bigger screen? Mirror Mode via HDMI shows your phone's display on your HDTV and lets you browse from your couch.

4.3" qHD Clarity

A brilliant 4.3", qHD screen, delivers 26% more pixels than Droid X for incredibly razor-sharp resolution. Reduce glare on your screen and enjoy richer colors with the dual-layer anti-reflective coating, plus keep your screen protected with the scratch- and impact-resistant display!

Command Your Media

Capture action with an 8MP camera, and enjoy 44% faster shot-to-shot times than Droid X thanks to continuous auto-focus. Command your images like puppets on a string by aggregating Web photo albums in one application. Plus, shoot video in crystal clear clarity with 720p HD video capture.

Additional Features

Beyond the obvious high-end hardware (despite lacking 4G LTE connectivity, something the Motorola Droid Bionic will offer later this year), the Droid X2 is enterprise-ready with security and IT-grade policies. This allows you to use your Droid X2 for work and play.

The Droid X2 also supports Google Mobile services, including Gmail, YouTube, Google Talk, Google Search and Google Maps, as well as access to more than 200,000 downloadable apps, games and widgets from Android Market. The phone's virtual QWERTY keyboard features Swype for quicker and easier typing.

Lastly, Motorola and Verizon have equipped the Droid X2 with a new Gallery app that allows you to view, tag and post photos on sites like Flickr and Facebook, all from one place. (source)
